The Chanticleers have a new man at the helm of the football team in Tim Beck following the departure of Jamey Chadwell, but who is Tim Beck?

Beck was hired by Coastal at the end of December directly following Chadwell's departure to take over at Liberty following six season with the Chanticleers.

Beck comes to Conway from North Carolina State, where he was their offensive coordinator for the past three seasons, as well as their quarterbacks coach. His experience with quarterbacks will assuredly help further develop Grayson McCall in his final season in college.

Prior to being at N.C. State Beck coached at Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio State and Texas, filling either the offensive coordinator or another offensive coach role at each stop. Beck is highly regarded as a recruiter, being ranked the eighth-best recruiter in the nation by 247Sports.com in 2020.

His skill with coaching quarterbacks was put on full display in 2021 when NC State’s

quarterback Devin Leary set a new school record for touchdown passes in a single season with 35 while also throwing for over 3400 yards. He became one of only three players in ACC history to throw for over 3400 yards and 35 touchdowns. Along with Leary’s impressive display in 2021 Beck has also coached J.T. Barrett, Cardale Jones and Sam Ehlinger.

These numbers and the names he has coached in the past should give Chanticleer fans hope for the future, not only for McCall this season, but for the future with quarterback recruits like local star and preferred walk-on freshman Scott Saylor.

In his first statement after his hiring Beck expressed his excitement at getting his first head coaching job and hitting the ground running in Conway. I could not be more excited to be the head football coach at Coastal Carolina University.

"The complete alignment between Dr. Benson, Joe Moglia and Matt Hogue has helped establish a championship program that is a tremendous fit for me and my family," Beck said in a university news release. "I fully embrace the expectations for how we will run this program each and everyday. Coastal is a special place with special people. We are humbled and honored to become apart of the Chanticleer family and the Conway community."

Beck went to Central Florida for his undergrad and then went to Kansas State for his masters. Be sure to continue following College Football Dawgs for more updates on Beck’s first season with Coastal Carolina, including an interview with the head coach before the season.
