Washington Eyes Upset, Indiana’s Perfect Run in Peril

Indiana

Undefeated Indiana hosts Washington this on Oct. 26, looking to extend its perfect record to eight games. The No. 13 Hoosiers (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten Conference), averaging nearly 49 points per game, face their toughest challenge yet against a hungry Huskies (4-3, 2-2) squad eager to rebound from a recent blowout loss. With Indiana's sophomore QB Tayven Jackson stepping in for the injured Kurtis Rourke, both teams will be vying for a critical win in this rare B1G matchup.

What's at Stake

The Hoosiers are in the midst of a remarkable season, charging ahead with a perfect 7-0 record. Averaging an impressive 48.7 points per game, their offense has been unstoppable, while their defense has proven just as formidable, holding opponents to an average of only 13.7 points per game. Yet, questions remain as Indiana’s schedule has included only two teams with winning records, leaving some to wonder if they have truly been tested. The Huskies, facing off against Indiana this week, might be that test. Although Washington is coming off a difficult loss to Iowa (4-3, 2-2), they will be eager to prove themselves against a top team, making this a pivotal matchup for both programs.

Key Players: Indiana

Jackson will step in for the injured Rourke. Jackson, a sophomore, will need to manage the game effectively, but if he struggles with passing, Indiana should rely on their powerful running game. Senior RBs Justice Ellison and Ty Son Lawton, who each have 8 touchdowns this season, will be crucial in keeping the offense moving. Indiana’s defense, led by senior LB Aiden Fisher, will also play a key role in containing a capable Washington offense.

Key Players: Washington

The Huskies will rely heavily on senior QB Will Rogers, who has had a strong season with 13 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. For Washington to have a chance, Rogers will need to make explosive plays in the passing game. His connection with sophomore wideout Denzel Boston, who leads the team with 9 touchdown catches, will be crucial.

Boston must continue making big plays to help the Huskies overcome Indiana's defense. On the ground, junior RB Jonah Coleman will play a key role in establishing the run, as the Huskies look to challenge Indiana’s stout defense.

Trends to Watch

This matchup marks just the fourth meeting between Indiana and Washington, with their last faceoff occurring over two decades ago in 2003, when the Huskies secured a commanding 38-13 victory at home. Before that, the teams met twice in the 1970s, making this a rare but intriguing contest, brought about by recent conference realignment. With both teams now in the B1G, fans will get a chance to see how these two programs measure up in today’s landscape.
