Oklahoma secured a commitment from former UT-Martin running back Sam Franklin on Wednesday. This will be a welcome addition to a running back room that has been left depleted after the loss of running backs Tawee Walker and Marcus Major to the transfer portal.
sam Franklin: The Next Great Oklahoma Back?
Franklin is a redshirt sophomore who is 5-foot-10 and weighs 200 pounds. He ran for 1378 yards on 223 carries and 11 touchdowns this season. Sam was also a finalist for the Walter Camp Award which is awarded annually to the FCS's most outstanding offensive player. Franklin chose Oklahoma over programs like USC, Arkansas, and South Carolina.
Oklahoma most likely already has their starting running back on the roster in redshirt freshman Gavin Sawchuk, who rushed for 605 yards on 105 carries and 8 touchdowns. That being said, Franklin is an explosive player who can contribute immediately in a big way while providing much-needed depth at the running back position.
Overall this is a great and much-needed pickup for the Oklahoma Sooners. To keep up with all the recruiting/portal news follow College Football Dawgs on all social media platforms and at collegefootballdawgs.com
