EA Sports has officially revealed the cover athlete for their upcoming Madden 25 game, and Christian McCaffrey is the one receiving the honors. McCaffrey is the first player from the San Francisco 49ers to ever grace the cover of the popular video game franchise, and the announcement comes at a perfect time.
Just recently, the star running back signed a two-year, $38 million contract extension to stay with the 49ers. The fact that the 49ers have never had a player on the cover of Madden may come as a shock to some, but there is no doubt McCaffrey is deserving. Madden 25 is set to release on Aug. 16.
McCaffrey: The Madden 25 Cover
McCaffrey on the cover of Madden just makes sense. While helping the 49ers secure an NFC title last season and earning the Offensive Player of the Year nod, the captivating RB was also a finalist for the MVP award. Last year, the former Stanford Cardinal dominated the league, leading the NFL in rushing yards with 1,459. McCaffrey was among the leaders in many other categories as well, such as being tied for second in carries and fourth in touchdowns.
Not only is this cover selection significant for McCaffrey and the 49ers, but it's also a win for running backs everywhere, as he becomes the first RB to grace the cover of a Madden game since Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson in 2013. The last four Madden covers have all featured quarterbacks, and McCaffrey's representation brings a refreshing change.
For EA Sports, this cover reveal adds to their already exciting summer, as the studio prepares to release the highly anticipated College Football 25 game. The college counterpart to Madden will be released on July 19, less than a month before Madden 25 comes out with McCaffrey as the face of the game.
Fans have the option to purchase a bundle of both College Football 25 and Madden 25, making for a great deal for any football lover. McCaffrey will feature on both the standard and deluxe editions of the game, and fans can pre-order now.
For the first time in a decade, fans will be able to play as their favorite college and professional football players in the same year. Whether you're playing as Ohio State or the Kansas City Chiefs, this summer is going to be one to remember for all fans.
