Coach Chris Klieman and the Kansas State staff have landed the program's first-ever five-star recruit in Linkon Cure. Cure a native of Goodland, Kan., is a five-star recruit according to 247sports.com and the On3.com industry rankings.

The Kansas State recruiting class was ranked 66th nationally before Cure's commitment. Kansas State landed him over Oregon, Texas A&M and Kansas.

Who Is Linkon Cure?

The 6-foot-6 220-pound tight end is a multisport athlete for the Goodland Cowboys. During his junior season, he had 42 catches, 946 yards and 14 touchdowns. Cure has also won two Class 3A Kansas state championships in the 300-meter hurdles. His best time in the 100-meter is 10.8 seconds. He also played on the state runner-up basketball team scoring 11.2 points a game, with 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. On the football field, the multisport aspect is on display with his top-tier speed and the leaping ability to win jump balls.

Impact on Kansas State

Getting a player like this will have important implications for the K-State program under Klieman. After getting an Elite 11 QB in Avery Johnson to stay home in Kansas, it is huge to have a big-time playmaker join him.

This will help show other top recruits that they can come to K-State and get recognition on a national stage. The new College Football Playoff format will help schools like K-State get more top-tier recruits in the future with all being needed is to win the Big 12 Conference.

K-State has some good tight ends on the 2024 roster with Garrett Oakley and Will Swanson after Ben Sinnott—a former walk-on—being drafted by the Washing Commanders. The new offense under offensive coordinator Matt Wells and offensive line coach Conor Riley is looking to take more shots downfield and signing a player like Cure with his size speed and athleticism will be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses in the future.
