How Westwood Can Be Won with a Man of Steele and Dante’s Inferno

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

The Bruins of UCLA, along with their arch nemesis USC Trojans, will leave the purgatory that is the PAC-12 Conference for the spectacle of elite college football that is the Big Ten Conference in 2024.

However, before they can begin their journey to gridiron enlightenment, UCLA must navigate and survive the 12 circles of hell in the form of their 2023 football schedule. Fortunately for the Bruins, there are three gridiron pilgrims that will guide UCLA through this “hell.”

RB Carson Steele

The first of these is RB Carson Steele. A stout runner at 6-1, 215 pounds, Steele chose to leave Ball State and come to Westwood. He ranked #8 on the country in rushing at 129 yards per contest.

Steele gained 1556 rushing yards, and scored 14 touchdowns. In 2022, he posted nine games of 100+yards rushing, including five consecutive games of eclipsing the century mark. Steele scored multiple touchdowns in a game four times, and on three occasions scored three touchdowns in a game. A Man of Steele, indeed.

LB Darius Muasau

The second one seeking enlightenment is the pilgrim Darius, also known as LB Darius Muasau. Muasau was a fearsome beast on the gridiron in 2022. So much so that the entrance to their own endzone was marked with this message:

“For it is me through which you fall into the pit of false glory.”“For it is me through which you gather among the lost souls of failed excellence.”“Your desire is futile, you who attempt to run through me.”

He came to Westwood by way of paradise on earth known as Hawaii. There, he collected 109 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, seven sacks, four pass breakups, and five forced fumbles. Muasau achieved greatness during his three years in paradise. He collected 274 tackles and earned the honor of 1 st Team All-Mountain West.

QB Dante Moore

The third idol is the protagonist Dante, known as QB Dante Moore. He is the highest-rated recruit ever recruited by the great teacher of offense Chip Kelly. Dante was rated #3 overall recruit in the country and was the #1 recruit in his home state of

Michigan. As a senior in high school, Dante threw for 2392 yards, 32 TDs, and a mere 3 INTs at Martin Luther King High School in Detroit. While there, Dante passed for 9880 yards, 135 touchdowns, and 20 INTs.

Dante made his pilgrimage to Westwood and enrolled early in the teachings of Coach Kelly. He began his lessons in the spring. The Bruins enjoyed success on the offensive, as witnessed by the throngs of supporters gathered on Saturdays at the field of battle known as the Rose Bowl. UCLA ranked among the best when attacking on offense:

#4 in total offense at 503 yards per contest.
#6 in rushing offense at 237 yards per game.
#8 in scoring offense at 39 points per game.

All three of these pilgrims will be called upon to further the success of the Bruins of Westwood in 2023.
