Dawg Preview: WVU at Houston

Thursday, October 12, 2023, is a date that Mountaineer Nation has marked on its calendars. That is the day they finally play the 2nd most hated man in WVU football history, Dana Holgerson of the Houston Cougars. Dana coached WVU from 2011-2018, he was the 'coach in waiting' during the Bill Stewart era. While Dana had success at WVU he left a bad taste in the mouths of all Mountaineer fans by saying "You could never win a Big 12 at WVU, there isn't enough talent in the state". So to say WVU isn't fired up for this game would be an understatement.

Broadcast Information:

T.V. 7pm kick off on FoxSports1

Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman are on the call

Radio: Mountaineer Sports Network 104.50 WHAJ-FM. Houston Sports Network 103.3 The GOAT

What's at stake?

Well, first off 'bragging rights' for WVU proves the point you can win in the Big 12 with WVU. Second, if WVU can pull off a win that would take them to 5-1 and 3-0 in the Big 12. Houston needs a win badly, they are currently 13th in the Big 12 standing 0-2 in conference and 2-3 overall. So Houston will throw everything they have at WVU.

Key Players: WVU

RB CJ Donaldson - should have a good game against a suspect defensive line

QB Garrett Green - don't put the ball in harm's way play your game.

Key Players: Houston

The Defensive Line - must get pressure on the QB and stop the run

QB Donovan Smith - makes some plays in the passing game

Honestly, I can't wait for this game on Thursday night. I believe this game will be closer than want most people think, the ESPN match indicator gives WVU almost a 60% chance of winning. If WVU's defensive line plays like they have been playing and the offensive line does their thing then WVU will walk away with a win over Dana Holgerson and Houston....."Cue Country Roads"

WVU 31 - Houston 20
