Buckeyes Land Four-Star Recruit to Beef Up Defensive Line

Ohio State Buckeyes land Recruit

The Ohio State Buckeyes made another splash in their 2025 recruiting class. According to On3Recruits, the Buckeyes landed 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive lineman, Jarquez Carter. Carter chose the Buckeyes over the likes of Penn State, Miami and Florida.

Carter in High School

Carter went to high school in Newberry, Fla. In his sophomore year, he finished the season with 78 total tackles with 23 of those being tackles for loss, 8 quarterback hits, 10 sacks, 2 pass breakups and a forced fumble.

In Carter's junior year, he finished the season with 67 total tackles with 37 of those being tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits and 9 sacks. Carter helped Newberry make the regional finals of Florida's 1R playoffs.

Buckeyes 2025 Recruiting Class

Carter joins an already stacked recruiting class that the Buckeyes have put together in the 2025 season. According to 247Sports, the Buckeyes 2025 recruiting class ranks No. 1 in the nation and has 24 total commits.

The recruiting class contains three five-stars, 14 four-stars—including Carter—and seven three-stars.

Ryan Day

Director of Scouting for 247Sports, Andrew Ivins gave a breakdown of who Carter is.

"Interior plug that has brought the energy while dominating a lower level of competition in the Sunshine State. Under 6-foot-2 and equipped with shorter arms but makes up for the lack of length with his active hands and short-area movement skills. Quick to get into blockers and flashes some impressive knockback power for someone his size."

Ivins also gave a brief report on how Carter projects a player on the field.

"Projects best as a 3-technique in a 4-3 front that can provide valuable minutes in a Power Four rotation after a few developmental years. Young for grade and will turn 18-years-old right before freshman season."

Ohio State and coach Ryan Day are hungry to get the College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy back in their hands. The Buckeyes will have to deal with the usual likes of their rival the Michigan Wolverines, the USC Trojans and especially the Oregon Ducks. But they hope that the recruitment of Carter and the rest of the 2025 recruiting class will get them there.
