Following the addition of head coach Bill O'Brien, Boston College has announced its updated coaching staff for the 2024 season.

O'Brien retained four coaches from last year's Boston College staff which helped lead the Eagles to a 7-6 record along with a victory in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl over SMU.

Offensive line coach Matt Applebaum, running backs coach Savon Huggins, special teams coordinator Matt Thurin, and assistant head coach & wide receivers coach Darrell Wyatt were among the retentions by O'Brien, while former offensive analyst Jonathan DiBiaso was promoted to quarterbacks coach.

To help fill the rest of the Boston College staff, O'Brien relied on the connections that he created throughout his several stops as a coach both at the collegiate and professional levels.

Most recently, O'Brien capped off his second stint with the New England Patriots as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2023 season after also working as an offensive assistant in various roles from 2007-2011.

Also on that 2023 Patriots staff was tight ends coach Will Lawing, who O'Brien hired as the next Boston College offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.

O'Brien also brought in two other former Patriot staffers, Dan O’Brien, son of former Boston College head coach Tom O'Brien, as the new linebackers coach, as well as former Patriots director of football/head coach administration, Berj Najarian who joins the Eagles as the new chief of staff.

Looking elsewhere to help fill his first Boston College coaching staff, O'Brien also pulled from his connections in his days as a head coach with both the Penn State Nittany Lions and Houston Texans.

New director of football performance, Craig Fitzgerald worked with O'Brien at both locations and most recently worked with the New York Giants as the head of strength and conditioning.

Rounding out the staff are three more new members.

New secondary coach Ray Brown joins the staff after a previous stint as a cornerbacks coach at Washington State.

Defensive line coach Jeff Comissiong provides a familiar face to the staff for Eagles fans after working in Chestnut Hill in the same role from 2007-2012, he most recently served as a linebackers coach at Cornell.

Finally, former Arlington Renegades co-defensive coordinator Tim Lewis was named the new Eagles defensive coordinator. Lewis has worked in spring football (XFL, UFL, AAF) since 2019 and has previous experience as a defensive coordinator both with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

O'Brien and the rest of his new coaching staff will get their first chance to introduce themselves to the Boston College fans during the team's spring football game on Saturday, April 13.
