WHO IS COLIN SIMMONS?
Colin Simmons is a five-star EDGE from Duncanville High School in Duncanville, TX. The 6-foot-2-inch, 225-pound speed EDGE committed to Texas over LSU and Miami. Simmons is a consensus five-star recruit and is the number one EDGE in the country and the number one recruit out of Texas according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
IMPACT FOR TEXAS
Simmons gives the Longhorns their first five-star commitment for the 2024 recruiting class. On3 Recruiting now ranks the Texas class as number 17 in the country and ninth in the SEC. Simmons also gives the Longhorns their fourth commitment on the defensive line for 2024.
HOW QUICKLY CAN SIMMONS CONTRIBUTE AT TEXAS?
The Longhorns have a lot of youth on their defensive line, but Simmons is a highly talented EDGE who could push for playing time in 2024. Currently the Longhorns have a junior and sophomore starting at the EDGE positions, which will make it difficult for the five-star to crack the two-deep. But with a player as talented as Simmons, the competition will be fierce on the Texas defensive line. However, he will need to bulk up some if he wants to play against the mammoth SEC offensive lines next season.
SCOUTING COLIN SIMMONS
Simmons is a speed rusher with a fast dip move that gets him past opposing offensive tackles. He has above-average length which helps disengage from his opposition with regularity. When he does not get penetration Simmons is very good at getting into passing lanes to block the quarterback’s vision and leads to many batted passes. He had an incredible junior year, leading Duncanville to the state championship in Texas’ highest classification. He ended 2022 with 33 tackles for loss and 22.5 sacks.
