2024 FIVE-STAR DL JUSTIN SCOTT COMMITS TO MIAMI

WHO IS JUSTIN SCOTT

Justin Scott is a five-star defensive lineman from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago, IL. The 6-foot-4-inch, 315-pound DL chose the Hurricanes over Ohio State. Scott committed to Ohio State on July 2, 2023, but he decommitted from the Buckeyes today and then announced his commitment to Miami. While ESPN lists him as a four-star recruit, Scott has been named a five-star prospect according to 247Sports, On3Sports, and Rivals. These rankings have him listed as the No. 1 recruit out of the state of Illinois. Scott has played both soccer and basketball at St. Ignatius.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF THE COMMITMENT FOR MIAMI

The commitment of Scott gives Miami their 27th commitment for the 2024 class, which is ranked second in the ACC and ninth overall. Scott is the third defensive lineman committed to Miami.

HOW QUICKLY CAN JUSTIN SCOTT CONTRIBUTE AT MIAMI?

The depth chart for defensive linemen at Miami has two seniors, three juniors, and two freshmen. Scott can play either defensive end or defensive tackle. That kind of position flexibility will only increase his chances of seeing the field early for Miami.

SCOUTING JUSTIN SCOTT

Justin Scott is a massive defensive lineman and also has very good speed for someone with his size! His mobility also goes against the norm for a player of his position. His senior year was only his third year of playing football, so he has room to grow with his knowledge and techniques. He can use his size to bull rush or his speed and lethal initial burst to blow by offensive linemen. He has good length but will need to fine-tune the use of his hands. Scott has very good speed in pursuit as he is able to both chase ball carriers downfield and go from sideline to sideline to make tackles. While he is being recruited as a defensive lineman, Scott is also a very good offensive lineman and can switch positions if needed.
