2023 MARYLAND TERRAPINS SCHEDULE & PREDICTIONS

Photo Credit: Hillel Steinberg via Flickr

The Maryland Terrapins come into the 2023 season with optimism as second-team All-Big Ten quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa is returning for his senior season. Head coach Mike Locksley enters his sixth year in College Park looking to close the gap with the top programs in the Big Ten East.

Below is the 2023 Terrapins schedule and a prediction for each game.

September 2 vs Towson: Win

Win The Towson University Tigers are an FCS team who should not be too much trouble for the Terps.

September 9 vs Charlotte: Win

Charlotte is an AAC team who just replaced their entire coaching staff. The 49ers are one of the bottom three teams in the AAC, and should not pose much of a threat.

September 16 vs Virginia: Win

Home game against a Virginia team who struggled last year during head coach Tony Elliott’s first season. Virginia’s season ended after 10 games when three players were tragically gunned down on a school trip. This is Maryland’s first challenge, it the Terrapins should win handily.

September 23 @ Mich St: Win

The first road game of the Terrapin’s season will be a tough nut to crack. However, the Terps will come out of East Lansing with the victory.

September 30 vs Indiana: Win

Another Big Ten game, this time at home. The Hoosiers may still be unsettled at quarterback coming into College Park. Their defense only returns two starters from a unit that gave up 33.9 points per game. This one goes in Maryland’s win column.

October 7 @ Ohio State: Loss

Maryland’s second Big Ten road game is one of the toughest places to play in the country. The Buckeyes have one of the best rosters in the country. While they may still be unsettled at quarterback, the Buckeyes have the roster to win despite any uncertainty.

October 14 vs Illinois: Loss

Bret Bielema teams are tough as nails and tough to play against. The Illini defense is one of the better groups in the Big Ten and the offense will ground and pound the clock to a win.

October 28 @ Northwestern: Win

The Wildcats are one of the worst football programs in the country. Head coach Pat Fitzgerald will have Northwestern battling, but the Terps should walk away with this game.

November 4 vs Penn St: Loss

This is a Maryland home game but could seem like a road game because Penn State travels well. The Nittany Lions have a top five roster with the only question being how good Drew Allar is. By November 4th, we should know.

November 11 @ Nebraska: Win

The Cornhuskers enjoy an incredible atmosphere, and will still feel the preseason hype for the program after hiring Matt Rhule as head coach. Any momentum, though, will be gone as the Huskers are rebuilding and Maryland will take advantage to come out of Lincoln with a Win.

November 18 vs Michigan Loss

See the write up for Penn State. The same applies for Michigan, except JJ McCarthy has established himself as one of the rising quarterbacks in the nation.

November 25 @ Rutgers: Win

The Terrapins finish with a win that may be the final nail in the Greg Schiano Rutgers coffin.

Final regular season record 8-4
